Pot-A-Peno Petter basket
Pot-A-Peno Jalapeno pepper basket.

One year, we grew more Pot-A-Peno jalapeno pepper baskets than we could sell. So that summer, that was our jalapeno crop, and boy did those baskets produce the peppers! Way more than we could eat or use.

What could we do with them all? We ended up cutting them in half, scooping out the seeds, and freezing them. Thankfully, they still make great Jalapeno Poppers.

If you have little space for a garden, these Jalapeno baskets are a great investment. Every year, they produce more peppers than our family can use. We have been very impressed with them.

The Pot-A-Peno is an early-maturing jalapeno pepper. Pick peppers when green to add a traditional spicy zip to any dish, or allow the peppers on the plant to ripen until red for a sweet-spicy flavor. Personally, I think the red makes the best Poppers. Pot-A-Peno needs 6 hours or more of sunlight. If planting in the garden, plant 12-18 inches apart.

Water with a low amount of fertilizer, we recommend 1 tsp of Nature's Source fertilizer per gallon of water. The best time to water is in the morning.

Here is a great Bacon-Jalapeno Popper recipe, your family will keep asking for more. At least mine does!

Ingredients:

12 Jalapeno peppers

6 ounces cream cheese, softened

1 teaspoon garlic powder

4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

2 Tablespoons chopped fresh chives

1/2 pound Pork & Plants Bacon, fried and crumbled

1 Tablespoon melted butter

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F

  2. Wearing gloves, slice the jalapenos in half lengthwise. Using a small spoon, scoop out the seeds and membranes.

  3. In a bowl, combine cheese, garlic powder, cheddar cheese, bacon, butter, and chives (if using).

  4. Fill jalapenos with the cheese mixture.

  5. Place on a baking pan and bake 18-22 minutes or until golden.

  6. Cool 5-10 minutes before serving.

Make sure you wear gloves when working with Jalapeno or other hot peppers, or you may burn your hands with the juice. One year, I didn't wear gloves, and the tips of my fingers throbbed for a few days afterwards.

Enjoy eating these delicious poppers!
