Putting together different plants,
whether in the ground or planters is part science and part art.
The science has to do with whether they like the same growing
conditions, sun or shade, cool or hot, wet or dry. The art is
finding complimentary colors, shapes and textures.
When it comes to pots or planters
on the ground, you'll definitely want to look for a "thriller",
"filler" and "spiller." Thrillers are the tall, focal
point of the planter, something that catches your eye and makes you
want to go "WOW." Fillers are the middle height that do
what they say, fill in the space and create the backdrop for the
thriller. Spillers then cascade along the edge and down the
planter (and are the major component for hanging baskets).
In the end it's often personal
preference of what you like, but we can offer some suggestions to
